Hi! Just wondering if it is possible to manually (from the start) create the photo survey without the auto matching? I'm trying to get a grip of how the system works with the dual view and manually connecting points, and I think I'm starting to get it.
But is it possible to create a point on a photo, and tell pftrack that this is the same point on multiple images? Because every time I want to connect a point from one image to another it works, but as soon as I change the image, the previously created point (on the reference image) disappears as well. Making me have to create points from scratch again and then I don't know if it is referencing the same area on the previously image... Does this make sense?😅
Hello Jonas,
Regarding your first question, no, it’s not possible to manually create a photo survey from scratch without using the auto-matching process. The Point Adjustment tools are designed for refining points after the automatic matching step has been completed.
With regards to your second question, is it possible to create a point on a photo, and tell PFTrack that this is the same point on multiple images? Yes, you can do that, just keep one photo fixed in the dual view on the right. Click a point in this fixed view and connect to a point in the image on the left. Change the image on the left and then repeat. Make sure "Manual matches only" and "Dual match lines" are switched on.
That said, if you find yourself needing to manually connect a large number of points to achieve a solution, it’s usually a sign that a reshoot might be the better option, if that's possible. Capturing stills with better overlap and plenty of parallax (by physically moving the camera between shots) will give the solver the depth cues it needs and can save you a lot of time and manual work.
